Former telecom chief joins the Nasdaq-listed company as it targets rapid deployment of AI infrastructure in North America.
Hans Vestberg, the former head of Verizon Communications, has joined Digi Power X Inc. (Digipower X) as a senior advisor, the company said on Tuesday. The move comes as Digipower X seeks to accelerate the deployment of its modular data centers and capitalize on the growing demand for AI processing power.
Digipower X is positioning itself to bypass traditional delays in data center construction by integrating power generation with modular facility design. Vestberg, who led Verizon’s network-first strategy and Ericsson’s global expansion, will advise the executive team on strategic partnerships with hyperscalers and enterprises.
Gerard Rotonda, a Digipower X board member, noted that national competitiveness in AI now hinges on infrastructure speed.
“Hans recognizes that national AI competitiveness depends on solving power availability and deployment speed. His experience aligns directly with Digipower X’s mission to deliver infrastructure at the scale and speed this market now requires.”
Vestberg’s mandate includes refining the company’s international expansion strategy and edge-compute architectures. Digipower X has indicated it is evaluating long-term sites for advanced computing infrastructure, specifically in North Carolina and West Virginia, to support inference-driven workloads.
